A bit about Jo ‘80s child’ Porter

Hi, I’m Jo Porter, child of the 80s and teen of the 90s! I have been dancing for almost 35 years since the age of 4 years old. I started at a very young age at the Fylde Stage Academy in Blackpool where I performed in numerous shows at the Grand Theatre and Winter Gardens in Blackpool and did various exams in a variety of dance genres.

I continued dancing into my adult life completing a BA Hons degree in French and Performing Arts where I specialised in Contemporary Dance and spent a year teaching English and studying the performing arts in the beauty of Provence.

From there, in my spare time I discovered the world of musical theatre in my now hometown of Nottingham and had an amazing time, kicking my heels in West Side Story, wearing glitzy costumes in the Producers and performing a lead role in the musical Summer Holiday. Music is also my passion and I currently sing in a 1960’s soul and Motown band in my spare time.

More recently I have qualified as a Group Fitness Instructor and hold a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction. I also have a current Emergency First Aid qualification and enhanced DBS certificate.

After 16 brilliant years of working in the travel industry as Head of Concert Tours for a bespoke tour operator, I decided to follow my dream and set up what would become ‘Kitchen Dancing’!

As featured in Waitrose & Partners Weekend Magazine & Beestonian Magazine and on BBC Radio Derby and Nottingham and BBC East Midlands!
